Frequently Asked Questions
We have compiled a short list of the questions we are asked most frequently by our clients, our FAQs. If you don’t see the answer to your question here, please call us at (315) 982-6438.
What do your websites cost?
Our prices depend on many factors. To get a better idea of the cost of what you need, give us a quick phone call at (315) 982-6438. We’ll ask a few questions about your project, what features and interactivity you’ll need, who will handle content development, whether or not you’d like to sell online. After this short discussion, we should be able to give you a ballpark number. If you’re still interested, we’ll be happy to develop a comprehensive proposal that outlines the scope, process and costs.
Why should we hire Tech Guyz Inc.?
We started our business in 2012, after each having strong and successful careers in computer programming, graphic design, and marketing. We believe that our strong portfolio and our solid reputation for producing quality work on time and on budget are our best sales tools. We provide a list of references with each proposal.
Another company says they can build a website for us for $600. Why shouldn’t we use them?
We’ve seen those ads on the side of the road, too. Be wary of anyone who says they’ll build you a web site or sell you a car for $600. There’s a possibility they’ll take your money and run. What’s more likely is that they’ll take your money and then build your site with a template. They may have a lot of templates to choose from, but they’ll all be rather generic. They’ll ask you for five pages of text and then slap it into a template and that’s it. You can’t have custom graphic design; you can’t have any interactivity; your site won’t be optimized for search engines and it will look like a $600 site.
Remember, a consultation with Tech Guyz Inc. is always free and we just might be able to prevent you from wasting a thousand bucks.
Are there ongoing costs once my app is released?
Aside from development of new features, there can be changes required to the app when iOS or Android operating system updates are released. For example, when Apple released the iPhone 5, which had a larger screen size than previous devices, developers were required to alter some of their app’s graphics to cater for the larger screen size.
As we don’t know what changes are coming in future operating system upgrades, it is hard to predict how significant the changes will need to be, but based on our experience over the last few years, wholesale changes are not normally required when OS updates are made, they are normally smaller changes. In many cases (depending on the nature of the OS update) there may be no changes required at all.
Will I have a say in the graphic design process?
Absolutely. Our goal is to please you. We can’t do that without your input. If there are other sites with a design style that you would like to emulate, we can do that. If you have a logo or brand collateral that you’d like us to work around, that’s no problem. We’ll be sure your new site will be a consistent and integral part of your overall brand.
Who will I work with during the project?
This is a great question to ask and you should ask it of any web design and development firm you are considering. Many firms will farm out work to freelancers or interns. Some firms give little or no access to client’s who want to speak directly with their designers or developers. Our clients work directly with our tight knit crew of 5. Who that will be depends on your project needs and what stage of the process you are in during the project.
Can you help me update my existing website that another web firm built?
No. We only support websites that we have fully built. We have this policy so that we can 100% stand behind everything that we craft. There are issues of liability of multiple programmers touching the same code over time.
What is difference between Cross platform development vs Native App development?
Cross-platform technology provides a framework where one source-code can be utilized to create the multi-platform application; mainly for iOS & Android.
With native app development, we use default language and IDE for both iOS and Android, i.e. Objective-C/Swift with xCode for iOS and JAVA with Android studio for Android.
How long does it take to develop a mobile app?
Generally, the minimum time that an app of reasonable complexity will take to develop will be around 3 months from start to finish. More complex apps may take around 6-8 months.
Should I make my app for iOS or Android first?
Good question! If you are making a prototype or MVP, you need to figure out what devices your target market or MVP testers use, and then make it for the platform that the majority of them are using.
If launching a full app (i.e. not an MVP or prototype), there are 2 other points to consider –  market share and the revenue of the iOS and Android platforms.
In June 2015, the leading mobile operating system on smartphones was Android, with a market share of 52.6 percent. Apple iOS had a market share of 35.1% in comparison
However, when comparing revenue earnt from iOS apps versus Android, iOS apps earnt 75% more revenue than Android apps
If your app contains in-app purchase functionality, or is going to be a paid app, then going with iOS first is usually the best route to take.
Does Tech Guyz provide web hosting services?

What is difference between MEAN stack and LAMP stack?
“LAMP” is derived from Linux (L), Apache (A), MySQL (M), and PHP (P); which has established its efficiency over the years but may become outdated in the near future.
“MEAN†is derived from MongoDB (M), ExpressJS (E), AngularJS (A), and Node.js (N); which is an innovative, new and cutting-edge technology package for making your application performance faster and secure.
Can I modify my website design if I want?
Our designers make modifications to the ‘site design’, while you control most of the ‘site content’. This means you can modify images and text on your pages but you can’t modify the overall layout of those pages.
The MightyMerchant system makes it easy for you to control the settings that are most important for you, but prevents you from making changes that will ‘mess up’ your site.
You have a lot of control through the MightyMerchant Site Manager. If you have specific questions about what you can and cannot modify, give us a call.
How does the development process work?
There are nine steps in our development process
- Discovery – If the project is a rebuild, we review your current content and make further recommendations for improvements. If it’s a new site, we start by discussing the subjects and functionality you envisage for your site and develop an outline for you.
- Content – You compile all the content for the website, including all text and images.
- Preliminary Design – We create a home page concept including colors, fonts, image style and layout.
- Organization – When we have received all content in its final version, we review it to determine the best way to organize the information. The structure of the site is based on this organizational scheme and must be approved by you.
- Design Revision – After reviewing the initial design, you have the opportunity to request changes.
- Implementation – Once we’ve received your approval on the design, we move on to implementation. This is where the approved design becomes concrete and where we add site-specific features.
- Page Content – When we have all the content that will be included on the site and an approved design, we will enter all the data.
- Testing – We run through a final set of tests to be sure that everything is functional. You have an opportunity at this time to test the site as well.
- Launch – Once we have your final approval, we launch the site. The marks the end of the project.
